Week 3

Emerson once said, "Hitch your wagon to a star". American Civilization, 1862.

I interpret this as, If your going to jump on the wagon and follow others you might as well follow the best.

There is two ways to look at this quote, shadowing the best to learn from their success is a good way to go about learning. If you are going to follow someone you should follow the best because they have gained much more in life, and you can learn to have the same success. On the other hand, shadowing others to become significant or get noticed is not a good reason to follow them, but if you are going to, take note from people who are higher in status. Shadowing a person with status is better than jumping on the bandwagon of the popular girls/ guys in your school. Never follow others because they have more friends, follow them because they have acheived something you would like to. Always be yourself, society is forever changing, so what was in then, might not be in another week.
