Emerson once said, "Character is higher than intellect... A great soul will be strong to live, as well as to think."
I interpret this as, you may have all the smarts in the world, but that will not get you as far as charisma and personality.
Character is something that is developed over time, it is something you will spend your whole life building through experiences. The more you can look into an event in the past and realise why it happened, the more you can learn from it. Someone who has character has intellect as well; it is something gained along the way. Just because your intelligent does not mean you hold any premise over people who do not, but if you have character, you have much more. Character cannot be taught, or mimicked, whereas intelligence you can learn from others. Character is much harder to achieve than knowledge.
